Plans for new village office moving forward

CHESANING – During the Jan. 3 Chesaning Village Council meeting, administrator Troy Feltman provided updated details about the status of plans for the new village office with the Chesaning Chamber. Feltman wanted the council to have input on the plans before he authorizes the architect to give them the final design and budget.

Feltman explained the proposed office building has two components: meeting room space and police department space. Option one is constructing a 24 by 24 feet meeting room space as an addition to the existing building. Option two is to remodel the existing 24 by 32 feet garage for the police department. Option three is to construct a new 24 by 32 foot building for the police department. Option four would be to construct the 24 by 32 feet addition for the police department attached to the to the existing building but on the opposite side of the meeting space.

OHM Consultant Charles Rolfe is working with the village on this project. OHM is doing the design work.

Feltman said he already met with staff to gain some additional insight into the special needs for the office, including security and a fireproof space to store records.

Before they spend a significant amount of money on design, Feltman feels they should weigh the benefits and cost of stick built versus a modular design.

Feltman said, “No matter what we do, the existing entrance is not ADA compliant.”

The police department will also need secured access.

“We’re trying to keep it as cost effective as possible,” Feltman said.

The council gave Feltman approval to move forward with the final plans.
