MOOLENAAR ANNOUCNES FEBRUARY STAFF HOURS – Congressman John Mooleanaar (R-Midland) has announced office hours to be held by constituent relations representatives at locations throughout the Fourth District. The purpose of the office hours is to help residents in need of assistance with a federal agency, including the IRS and the VA. On Feb. 6, representatives will be at the Surbeck Administration Building council chambers, 201 N. Shiawassee St., Corunna from 10 to 11 a.m., and at the Thomas Township Library, 8207 Shields Dr., Saginaw from 3 to 4 p.m.

CHAMBER RAFFLE WINNER – The winner of the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce biweekly raffle for Wednesday, Jan. 22 was Greg Bruff. His ticket was drawn by Chesaning High School seniors Taylor Gross, Elizabeth Coon, Leah Keller, Lillian Cooper and Jordan Rodriguez who were at the chamber for mock interviews.

STAFF CHANGES – Several staff changes were announced during the Tuesday, Jan. 28 meeting of the Montrose Community Schools Board of Education. Three individuals are retiring – Cortney Jordan, who is a seventh and eighth grade science teacher; Kuehn-Haven Middle School dean of students Kerry Munsey; and Lee Ann Bloomfield, who is the payroll and benefits coordinator. The school board approved the hiring of Mary Anne Kilbourn to serve as the new payroll and benefits coordinator starting March 1.

KUEHN-HAVEN GOING GAGA – Recently, the Kuehn-Haven Middle School seventh grade advisory class held a penny war between grades fifth through eighth to raise money for a new piece of playground equipment called a GaGa Pit. They raised $1,300 and will be working with the Kuehn- Haven Middle School Student Council to purchase the GaGa Pit.

PREPARING FOR TRANSITION – The Kuehn- Haven Middle School Advisory Council has been meeting to address concerns about Kuehn-Haven transitioning into a school for grades fourth through seventh. About nine parents have been attending. Presently, students attending pre-kindergarten through fourth grade attend Carter Elementary School. However, this fall the 2020-2021 school year will feature fourth grade students transitioning to Kuehn-Haven Middle School to better accommodate the student population. CROSS TRAINING FOR TEACHERS – On Jan. 9 and 10, Carter Elementary School Principal Cassandra Jackson and Kuehn-Haven Middle School Dean of Students Kerry Munsey conducted a special training opportunity for teachers. Jackson explained the program is called Linking Walks and it provides opportunities for teachers to observe other teachers, collect data on strategies, reflect and grow. Jackson said, “Our teachers have a lot going on in the classroom and providing them with an opportunity to share is a positive experience for all. We will have another round of Linking Walks on Feb. 25 and 26 for middle school and high school teachers; and again, for elementary school teachers on March 24 and 25.”

MONTROSE BLUEBERRY QUEEN – The Montrose Blueberry Queen Pageant will be held Saturday, March 7, at the Montrose Community Schools Auditorium.

NEW BLUEBERRY OFFICE – The Montrose Blueberry Committee recently moved its office out of the Montrose Pioneer and Telephone Museum on Hickory Street and into its new office at 141 Parkway Drive, which is the old city office building and the new Montrose Township Senior Center Annex. The Montrose Blueberry Committee is planning to have an open house at its new office sometime this spring.
