CHESANING – Comedian Andy Beningo and two fellow comedians will perform two comedy shows benefiting the River Rapids Pedestrian Bridge on April 12. Shows start at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., both will be held at the Peet Community Center, 130 N. Saginaw St.

Beningo’s wife and her family are from Chesaning. “We got married over the summer and decided to live here. It’s a great community, and the people are very nice and friendly. I really like it a lot here,” he said.

Beningo got started performing comedy in college at Central Michigan University. “I did a lot of shows around campus, and when I graduated, I started performing at a lot of the comedy clubs across the state. Eventually, I had a few headliners that started taking me on the road as their opening act. And over time, started headlining shows of my own. I’m lucky to be able to do something that I love to do!” he said.

This will be the second time Beningo performs in Chesaning for the River Rapids Foot Bridge. “We did two shows last summer, and both sold out pretty quickly. I travel all across the country, but it is nice to perform back in Chesaning again,” Beningo added.

“My show is pretty clean, so people can bring just about anybody to the event. I basically talk about my life, my family, friends, wife, life on the road, technology, fast food restaurants, and my short-lived career as a middle school teacher,” he said.

Beningo will be bringing two comedian friends with him for the show. They are Khurum Shiek and Nate Armbruster. “Both are very funny, talented, clean comedians. It’s a great lineup, and I think everyone will enjoy all three comedians on the show!” Beningo said.

In addition to the comedy act, the local musical duo, Christine and Scott Sawyer, will also be performing the acoustic sound of Lions to Nowhere, before and after the shows.

The comedy night fundraiser benefits the community’s effort to build a new pedestrian bridge across the Shiawassee River. According to the event chair Chris Mishler, the cost to build the bridge is $420,000. However, with the tremendous community support, combined with a $300,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources; they’re now down to approximately $33,000 remaining to build the bridge.

Mishler said the Bridge Committee is dressing up the Peet Community Center and added special lighting for the April 12 comedy show. Eileen Bruff is in charge of the hors d’ oeuvres. Beer, wine and other beverages will also be available throughout the event.

Tickets are $15 per person, or $100 for table of eight. Reserve tickets are available at the Chesaning Village Office, (989) 845- 3800.
