GOVERNMENT MEETINGS

CHESANING TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9 due to the New Year’s holiday, at the Township Hall, 1025 W. Brady St.

SWAN CREEK TOWNSHIP PLANNING COMMISSION will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the township hall, 11415 Lakefield Road, St. Charles.

MARION TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, in the township hall, 11925 S. Merrill Road.

CHESANING VILLAGE COUNCIL will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, in the council chambers at the village office, 218 N. Front St.

BRADY TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, due to the New Year’s holiday, at the township hall, 16020 W. Peet Road, Oakley.

CLUBS/CIVIC GROUPS

CHESANING ROTARY CLUB meets each Tuesday at noon at Riverfront Grille in downtown Chesaning.

CHESANING KIWANIS CLUB meets every Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Riverfront Grille. Meetings include informational programs. Call (989) 326-2469 for information.

• The ST. CHARLES HISTORICAL MUSEUM, 603 Chesaning Road, is open Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon; Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m.; and Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Other hours are available by appointment, by calling (989) 865-6115.

FOOD AND FELLOWSHIP

• Chesaning American Legion Post 212 will hold its MONTHLY BREAKFAST on Sunday, Jan. 5 . from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. The menu consists of: pancakes, French toast, sausage, bacon, eggs to order, hash browns, sausage gravy and biscuits, toast, juice, milk and coffee. The cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children age 6-12 and free for children 5 and under. Proceeds go to help support local youth programs and community service.

• There will be a COMMUNITY SUPPER on the second Saturday of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 1629 Brady St., Chesaning. No reservations are needed and there is no cost. The supper is open to all. Those in need of a ride should call (989) 845-3157 Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

VETERANS

NEW LOTHROP VFW POST #6579 will meet at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month at the New Lothrop Village Hall, 9435 Beech St., New Lothrop.

SUPPORT GROUPS

• Got a few pounds to lose? Join CHESANING TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) at the Rehmann Health Center on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. Members win rewards as they lose. Weekly dues are only $1.25. There is a fee to join, and members receive a magazine with recipes, research and support stories each month. The first visit is free. OAKLEY TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) #1175, a weight-loss support group, meets every Tuesday at Brady Township Hall. Weigh-in is from 5:30 to 6 p.m., with the meeting from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Contact Jane Chrivia at (989) 845-3915 for further information.

TOPS CHAPTER #1313, New Lothrop, is located at the St. Michael Campus, 11994 Lincoln Road (back ramp entrance to the office building). Meetings are held on Tuesday evenings. Weigh-in is at 6:30 p.m. The

TOPS Club (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every week on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the St. Michael Catholic Church office building, 17994 Lincoln Road. Weigh-in is from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Visitors are always welcome (preteens, teens and adults – male and female). First meeting is free.

NAR-ANON MEETINGS for relatives and friends of drug addicts are held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road, Saginaw, on Sundays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

REUNIONS

• There’s a long tradition of writers gathering to swap stories and feed on each other’s creative energy. Writing offers a wide range of benefits for older adults, from the intellectual to the physical to the spiritual. Published author, Mary Quast, leads a WRITING CLASS at 10 a.m. on the last Tuesday of each month at the Montrose Senior Center. Participants will learn the basics of creative writing with thought-provoking exercises, mental

kickstarts and tips on keeping a journal. The group writes in a wide range of styles and topics. They enjoy sharing work and having artistic discussions to improve creative flow. Class members laugh and talk easily with each other in the comfortable environment of the senior center. Writing has been proven to improve mental dexterity, reduce stress, and in some cases – preserve history. The class is open to writers, non-writers, and those who simply have a story to tell. CHESANING BIBLE BAPTIST CHURCH will hold midweek services on Wednesdays at 6 p.m.

• New Wine Church, 734 Brady St., Chesaning, meets every Wednesday at 7 p.m. for BIBLE STUDY and great fellowship.

FOOD PANTRIES

• There will be FOOD DISTRIBUTION on the second Saturday of each month behind Trinity United Methodist Church in Chesaning. Service will be at 4:30 p.m. with distribution at 5 p.m.

• The CHESANING AREA EMERGENCY RELIEF (CAER) Center food pantry is open Monday, Thursday and Friday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. to provide free clothing and emergency assistance to those who live in southwest Saginaw County. Donations of time, funds, food, usable clothing, household goods, towels, bedding, diapers and money to purchase food are accepted. The CAER Center is located at 218 Church St. in Chesaning. HEALTH AND SAFETY

SENIOR CITIZENS
