APM updates mosquito abatement contract with township

MONTROSE TWP. – During its Tuesday, Jan. 18 meeting, the Montrose Township Board approved a new contract with APM, which included a few changes.

During the meeting, Montrose Township Supervisor Mark Emmendorfer told the township board, “Last year was the worst year for mosquitos on record. I think the main thing is there are some changes; a new phone service and some employee changes.”

He explained that the contract also has some new language for times/situations when the company has to decline service.

Former APM general manager Chuck Mullins said it will be improved service.

Trustee Tom Tithof asked Mullins, “If we have another year like last year, what will you do differently.”

Mullins responded, saying, “Last year, we had to bring in people from our Gladwin and Au Gres offices. Hopefully, we won’t have the type of rain we had as last year. We’re going to give it our best shot.”

Tithof asked whether properties that are typically wet will be automatically treated.

Mullins explained that a permanent site is one that doesn’t dry up.

Tithof said, “If it looks like it’s there annually, I’m thinking residents should know.”

Emmendorfer suggested that APM provide the township with a map of treated areas so that township residents can see on the map if their property is designated as a swampy area that would be treated automatically every year.

The Montrose Township Board approved a five-year contract with APM for mosquito abatement services.
