Tri-County Citizen

FRANCES D. KOPCHITZ

FRANCES D. KOPCHITZ, of Chesaning, 93, passed away suddenly on Saturday April 6, 2019 at Ascension, St. Mary’s, Saginaw. She went peacefully to the Lord after suffering a cardiac arrest after minor surgery. She was surrounded by numerous beloved family members who loved her dearly. Frances was born May 2, 1925 to the late Rudolph and Clara (Lunda) Hnilica. She was united in marriage to Frank C. Kopchitz on July 10, 1948. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on November 16, 2005. Fran was employed by Citizen’s Bank in downtown Flint in the 1940s, The Saginaw News, and Hehr Manufacturing before earning retirement. After retirement, Fran and Frank spent 17 winters in Lakeland, Fla. enjoying well-deserved time there. They enjoyed simple times of sunshine, beaches, tourist attractions, cards and visits with family and friends. They spent many days with beloved John and Lucile Kopschitz (who have predeceased her). Also, camping was a favorite pass time in beautiful Michigan with family, children and grandchildren. Frances was a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed sewing in earlier years. She always found a good reason to make a lunch, dinner or picnic. She loved cooking and baking, including soups, delicious pies, and Christmas cookies. She enjoyed her Czech heritage with her sister, Marie, and many cousins by baking kolache, and listening and dancing to polka music. She adored her seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren (while looking forward to a new granddaughter due April 14). They could do no wrong and she was always concerned about their welfare.

Surviving are daughter, Christine Rovoll, of Burt, and son, Robert (Paula) Kopchitz, of Chesaning; grandchildren, Mark (Bethany) Rovoll, of Midland, Melissa (Jason) Larson, of Wake Forest, N.C., Matthew Rovoll (Andrea Pippo), of Bay City, Kristen (Troy) Garcia, of Lakeland, Fla., Megan (Jeff) Sweers, of New Lothrop, and Brett (Kim) Kopchitz, of Canton; great-grandchildren, Brooke Birchmeier, Hannah Hodges, Samuel Rovoll, Aiden Rovoll, Westin Sweers, Ty Sweers, Chase Sweers, Kale Sweers, Juliana Larson, and Lucas Larson; and dearly beloved sister, Marie (Dick) Brian of Chesaning. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. Frances was also preceded in death by a beloved granddaughter, Nichole Kopchitz, on March 13, 2019.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Maple Grove, with Fr. John Cotter officiating. Contributions may be made to Right to Life of Michigan, Masses or the wishes of the family. Those who so desire may light a memorial candle or share a memory at misiukfuneralhome.com.
