Chesaning frosh split pair of volleyball contests

Chesaning’s freshman volleyball team recently split a pair of matches, losing at Byron on Tuesday, September 25 to the Lady Eagles, 23-25, 20-25 and 15-25 and beating host Ovid- Elsie last Tuesday, 25-15, 25-23, 15-11. No individual stats were provided to the Citizen.

STC JV volleyball squad wins pair of contests

St. Charles’ JV volleyball team won a pair of contests last week, beating Ashley in two straight sets, 25-15, 25-13 on Monday and edging past St. Louis on Wednesday, 25-19, 23-25, 15-5. No individual stats were provided to the Citizen.

Tribe JV gridders lose to New Lothrop

Chesaning’s JV football team lost last Thursday to host New Lothrop, 57-0. No further information or stats were provided to the Citizen.

New Lothrop hosts annual middle school invite

New Lothrop hosted its 11th annual middle school cross country invitational on Thursday, Oct. 4. No team scores are kept, and each runner receives a medal.

Goodrich’s Luke Francis won the boys’ race in 11:33. New Lothrop’s Ryan Heslip was fifth in 12:29. He was followed by Zach Craven (12:37), John Gross (13:44), Alex Milks (13:45), Lieu Vincke (13:50), Hunter Cromwell (15:04), August Birkmeier (15:06), Westin Sweers (15:08), Kyle Hinrichs (15:21), Andrew Sharpe (16:11), Logan Hornak (16:24), Paul Sharpe (16:30), Jared Angst (16:35) and Jasper Andres (17:57).

In the girls’ race, Olivia Giza of Goodrich won in 13:05. New Lothrop’s Ally Andres was second in 13:24, followed by Kyra Edwards (14:53), Lexy Andres (15:03), Cailyn Adduddell (15:05), Maya Newman (15:16), Josie Bauman (15:21), Izabella Martinez (15:37), Rylee Elkins (15:58), Savanna Craven (16:13), Tabatha Gross (16:31), Olivia Gillett (16:34), Ashlyn Albert (16:53), Ella Potters (20:36) and Molly Eickholt (24:38).

Tribe seventh graders beat MM, Byron

Chesaning’s seventh-grade girls’ basketball team picked up a pair of wins this week, knocking off Byron 24-14 on Monday, Oct. 1, and Mt. Morris 36-10 on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

Against Byron, after a 4-4 tie on the first quarter, the Tribe posted a 6-0 advantage in the second for a 10-4 lead at the break. The Indians went on to out-score the Eagles 8-6 in the third and 6-4 in the fourth.

Hannah Oakes had eight points for the young Indians. Ava Devereaux had six points. Abby VanHaaren and Katie Wirostek each had four points. Madison Anderson chipped in two points.

On Wednesday against the Panthers, led 8-1 after the first quarter, and then had an 8-0 run in the second for a 16-1 halftime lead. The Tribe out-scored their visitors 10-7 in the third and 10-2 in the fourth.

Oakes led the Tribe with 10 points. Devereaux had six points. Chloe Morse, VanHaaren and Wirostek each added four points. Madison Steele had three points. Reyna Atkinson and Alex Moore had two points apiece. Kennedy
