Lady Bulldog spikers beat Ashley, lose to St. Louis

St. Charles split a pair of volleyball matches this past week, beating host Ashley in a non-league battle on Monday and losing a TVC contest to visiting St. Louis on Wednesday.

Lindsey Pumford recorded six kills and six aces in the win over Ashley, 25-8, 25-4, 25-12. Faith Kumpelis orchestrated the offense by passing out 22 assists while Peyton Czymbor and Grace Douglas finished with 7 and 5 digs, respectively.

On Wednesday, the Lady ‘Dawgs suffered their first loss against three previous wins in league play, falling in four sets to St. Louis by a 10-25, 15-25, 27-25, 19-25 count.

Mikayla Williams and Pumford led the Bulldog attack with 12 and 8 kills, respectively, while Kumpelis commanded the offense with 33 assists.

Addison Stimac had 40 attempts passing from the back row, Czymbor had 26 passing attempts and Douglas had 19 attempts.

“The girls showed some intensity tonight and never folded,” said STC mentor Joe Cribbs after the St. Louis contest. “We talked about utilizing our physical talents and smarts and the girls played with excitement and heart tonight. We just needed to limit our errors in tough matches like this.”
