Kelley breaks school record as CHS beats Brandon in tennis

ORTONVILLE – Jarrett Kelley set a school record for career wins last Thursday as Chesaning’s varsity boys’ tennis team crushed host Ortonville Brandon, 7-1.

Kelley, a number one singles seed, posted a 6-1, 6-4 win to record his 90th career win, surpassing Ed Murphy, who had 89 victories from 2014 through 2017.

The senior standout earned his 20th win of the season against just three losses.

Meanwhile, Joshua Wirt remained unbeaten at number two seed with his straight-sets win, bumping his mark to a perfect 23-0.

Other singles winners for the Tribe were Leslie Agnew, who now owns a glossy 20-1 record, and Kyle Rolfe.

Three of the four doubles teams won for Chesaning with Nolan Meder/ Jack Skyard, Dakota Benkert/Trenton LaLone and Spencer Tepati/Andrew Woodcock all winning.

The Indians lost to Powers Catholic the previous week by a 5-3 score as Kelley, Wirt and Agnew won in singles, but all four CHS doubles teams lost.
