Residents of those communities who want to run for public office to fill one of these positions need to file for candidacy with their township clerk or at the office of the Saginaw County Clerk.

Saginaw County Clerk Michael J. Hanley said the deadline for candidates running for village council in the November general election is 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 24. Candidates are required to file an affidavit of identity, as well as filing a petition form with the required number of signatures of registered voters within the village community in which they are running, or pay a $100 fee to file without signatures.

Usually, candidates gather a few more than the minimum number of signatures to ensure they have enough valid ones to run for public office. Based upon population, the number of valid registered voter signatures required to run for village office in each of these races is a minimum of six, but not more than 20. An official petition form must be used to collect the signatures; the form is available online as well as from the county and township clerks.

Candidates who fail to file before 4 p.m. July 24 will not be listed on the Nov. 6 ballot.
