Tribe netters pick up two more wins

Chesaning’s varsity girls’ tennis team picked up a pair of lop-sided wins last week.

They defeated Hemlock 8-0 on Tuesday, May 8.

At number one singles, Anna Bates won by default. Casey Hartt won 6-2, 6-0 at number two. Brooke Miller won 6-0, 6-0 at number three. Kaylynn Princinsky also won by default at number four singles.

The number one doubles team of Brooke Keck and Abbey Bitterman won 4-6, 6-4, 7-7. The number two team of Jadyn Mathis and Katelynn Ferry won 6-1, 6-2. The number three team of Bretlyn Warner and Stephanie Coon, and the number four team of Caleigh Amman and Marra Sadilek each won by default.

The Tribe girls also defeated Bay City All Saints 7-1.

Bates won 6-0, 6-1 at number one singles. Hartt won 6-0, 6-2 at the number two sport. Miller won 6-0, 6-1 at number three. Princinsky won at number four.

In doubles play, Abbey Bitterman and Eve Griffin lost 1-8 at number one. Mathis and Ferry won 6-0, 6-3 at the number two slot. Warner and Coon teamed for a 6-1, 6-0 win at number three. Amman and Sadilek won 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at number four.

“The team started the season very solid and has improved nicely, and their record aptly reflects this,” said Chesaning coach Tom Teal. “All of the girls have overwhelming positive records and look to improve on them next week.”

The Indians will travel to Midland on Monday for the Tri-Valley Conference tournament, rescheduled from Friday, May 11, then travel to the regionals in Portland on Thursday, May 17.

Tennis Regionals

D-4 at Portland, Thursday, May 17, 9 a.m.

Teams include: Chesaning, Durand, Hamady, Ithaca, Lansing Catholic, Lansing Christian, Leslie, Mt. Morris, Ovid-Elsie and Portland.

Division 4 finals will be played on Friday and Saturday, June 1-2 at Novi High School.
