Lady Indians split with Shepherd

SHEPHERD – Chesaning’s varsity softball team split a twin bill with host Shepherd last Tuesday, winning a 2-1 pitching duel in the opener before falling to the Lady Bluejays in the nightcap, 7-1.

The Tribe scored twice in the top of the seventh to win a 2-1 squeaker in Game One as Liz Coon knocked in the winning run with a hit. Taylor Gross was masterful in the circle for CHS as she spun a four-hitter. Gross gave up no earned runs and just four hits while striking out seven.

Shepherd scored four times in the fifth and plated three more runs in the sixth to win the second game.

Gross absorbed the loss on the slab. Erica Barta stroked a double for Chesaning, which managed just three hits. At the end of the day, the Lady Indians stood at 10-6 overall and at 3-5 in conference play.
