Bulldogs swept by Sharks

ST. LOUIS – The Bulldog varsity diamondmen got swept by host St. Louis on Monday, May 7.

The Sharks took the opener 5-3. The Bulldogs scored three in the top of the fourth inning for a 3-0 lead. The Sharks responded but putting up three of their own in the bottom of the innings for the tie. They then added two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

“That was the difference,” St. Charles coach Roger Henninger said.

Austin Hammond took the loss on the mound. He went the full seven innings.

On offense, St. Charles got hits from Hammond, Michael Pratt and Austin Kelly, who also had a walk.

In the nightcap, the Sharks held on for an 11-8 win.

Blake Berent took the loss for the ‘Dawgs, going six innings on the mound.

Michael Menzel led the St. Charles offense with four hits and two RBI. Hammond added two hits with two RBI. Pratt and Berent each had a hit.

St. Charles led 4-2 in the bottom of the first inning, and added two in the second inning for a 6-2 lead. St. Louis scored four runs in the third inning to make it 6-6, then added four runs in the next two innings for a 10-6 lead.

With the losses, the ‘Dawgs drop to 3-3 in the Tri-Valley Conference West Division. They are 6-8 overall.
