STC sackers face Cavs in opener

CARROLLTON – St. Charles’ varsity diamondmen battled host Carrollton in the season opener on Tuesday, April 10.

The Cavs took the first game 9-3. The Bulldogs trailed 4-3 after four innings, but gave up five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Blake Berent, Austin Hammond and Cole Johnson handled the pitching duties in the game.

Michael Pratt had two hits with two RBI and a stolen base. Michael Menzel had a hit and a base-on-balls, was hit by a pitch and stole a base. Blake Trevillian had a hit and a RBI. Cody Kostick also had a hit.

In the nightcap, the ‘Dawgs jumped out early, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning, and adding another in the second for a 6-2 lead after three innings, when the game was called due to darkness.

Menzel got the start on the mound and was still working when the game was called. He gave up two hits and struck out one.

Leading hitters were Brett Schultz, Menzel and Kostick.
