Ram kickers win 1-0 over Lancers

MIDLAND – The Montrose girls’ soccer team traveled to Bullock Creek on Tuesday, April 10, and came away with a 1-0 win over the Lancers.

The Ram girls dominated possession in the first half and were able to move the ball well and create multiple scoring opportunities. A bunkered up and stingy Lancer defense, however held strong.

With just 10 minutes left in the first half, Allie Vredeveld found Mattie Reich sitting at the top of the 18. Reich fired a shot into the left corner of the net, just beating the outstretched arms of the keeper.

That was the only goal the Rams needed as they were able to maintain control throughout the rest of the match.

“We played a very strong first half but found it hard to put that final piece in place,” said Montrose coach Jason Perrin. “We missed some great chances, rushed some others, and their keeper just played great.”

He added, “It was a nice test for us as our schedule starts to get a little tougher. Mattie’s presence in the midfield on the attack has been a nice addition this year. Due to injuries last year, we had to keep her back on defense, but she is really talented and creative with the ball, so having her up top makes us that much more dangerous.”

Keeper Lexie Fisk had two saves for her third shutout of the season. The Rams outshot the Lancers 20-2 in the match.
