Bulldogs broom Saginaw High

ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles varsity baseball team picked up its first two wins of the season Thursday, April 12, in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Saginaw High.

The Bulldogs took the opener 10-0 in five innings. Michael Menzel, Brett Schultz and Cole Johnson combined for a one-hitter. Each recorded two strikeouts in the contest.

On offense, Austin Hammond swatted three hits. Austin Kelly had a hit with two RBI. Michael Pratt had a triple, while Blake Berent had a double. Kaleb Himler also had a hit.

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs prevailed 17-2 in four innings. Johnson got the start on the mound, fanning three. Pratt come on in relief and struck out four. The duo combined for a one-hit game.

At the plate, Berent had a pair of hits. Hayden Nothelferhad two hits with a RBI. Hammond and Kelly each had a hit with a RBI. Cody Kostick had a hit with two RBI. Schultz added a hit.

The 2-1 Bulldogs travel to Ovid-Elsie on Thursday to open Tri-Valley Conference West Division play.
