Michelle Perry applied for a grant from Meemic of Owosso. Last month the businesses’ agency principal Keiven Trombley came out to the elementary school to present her with the award.

Besides the $100 grant, Perry also received flowers, a $25 Red Lobster gift card and a bag of supplies for her classroom, according to elementary principal Michelle Barrett.

Barrett told the Citizen Perry plans to use her grant to purchase science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) centers for her classroom from the online teacher store Lakeshore Learning.

“Our teachers have been recipients of quite a few Meemic grants - not only does Meemic offer great insurance rates for our teachers, they also offer great supports in the classroom,” Barrett said.

“We are so appreciative of our relationship with them. I’m looking forward to seeing the new STEM kits being used in Mrs. Perry’s classroom.”

“It’s great that Meemic is such a strong supporter of educators,” Perry said.

“I am honored to receive this grant and can’t wait to show my students the new STEM kits we have for our classroom.”

Trombley noted the business enjoys being able to award grants to local classrooms.

“We encourage all teachers to apply. Giving grants to teachers is definitely a highlight of my job,” he said.
