Montrose Schools interview school superintendent candidates

MONTROSE – The Montrose Community Schools Board of Education began interviewing candidates for school superintendent on Thursday, April 12 and is expected to finish the first round of interviews on Wednesday, April 18.

Interim Superintendent Wayne Wright said 34 people applied for position; however, not all of them were qualified. The application deadline was March 29. The school board held a special meeting April 3 to determine which candidates to interview in the first round.

Those candidates are Bethany Rayl, Greg Matheson, Dr. Karen Sherwood, Victor Bugni, Kristy Spann and Dr. Linden Moore.

Rayl was interviewed on Thursday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m. She is the founder and owner of Global Success Skills, LLC. Rayl earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Saginaw Valley State University.

Matheson will be interviewed at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17. He is currently the elementary school principal at North Branch. Matheson earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Central Michigan University.

Sherwood will be interviewed at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 17. She is currently the superintendent for Kalkaska Public Schools. Sherwood earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan Dearborn, master’s degree from Central Michigan University and doctorate from Eastern Michigan University.

Bugni is scheduled for Wednesday, April 18 at 6 p.m. He is currently employed with the Michigan Department of Education. Bugni earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and studied as an educational specialist at Northern Michigan University.

Spann is scheduled for Wednesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. She currently serves as the executive director of educational services at Brandon Schools in Ortonville. Spann earned her bachelor’s degree at Eastern Michigan University, master’s degree at Marygrove College, specialist at Oakland University, and is working toward her doctorate.

Moore will be interviewed Wednesday, April 18 at 8 p.m. He currently serves as the principal of Hill-McCloy High School, as well as the director of the Montrose Choice School. Moore earned his bachelor’s degree from Ferris State. He earned both his master and doctorate degrees from Eastern Michigan University.

The interviews are open to the public and held in the media center at Kuehn-Haven Middle School. Wright anticipates a second round of interviews during the week of April 23. The school board’s April meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 24 starting at 6:30 p.m.
