Ram, Indian wrestlers place at state individual wrestling finals

DETROIT – Three Montrose and two Chesaning wrestlers placed at the Division 3 state finals last weekend, March 2-3, at Ford Field in Detroit.

Montrose’s Reese Wallis led the quintet, placing second at 125 lbs. after losing a 9-2 decision to Dakota Greer of Howard City in the finals. Wallis had two wins by decision and a technical fall on his way to the finals. The senior was 49-2 on the season.

At 103 lbs., Jake Elasivich finished in third place for the Rams, pinning Austin Fietz of Dundee in 1:30 of their consolation finals match. He had a pair of decision wins to reach the third-place match. The freshman was 46-7 on the season.

Chesaning was led by Dawson Giesken, who took third at 112 lbs. with a 3-1 decision over Jacob Bosley of Hart in the consolation finals. He had two decision and one major decision win to reach the consolation finals. The senior was 44-8 on the year, and also recorded 150 career wins at Chesaning.

Also at 103 lbs., Jordan Rodriguez placed seventh for Chesaning, pinning Nolan Rodriguez of Alma in 4:49 of their match. The sophomore was 44-4 on the season.
