Four Hornets place at D-4 state individual wrestling finals

DETROIT – New Lothrop had four varsity wrestlers place at the Division 4 individual state finals last weekend, March 2-3, at Ford Field in Detroit.

Junior Austin Wolford led the Hornets, finishing first at 140 lbs. with a 5-1 decision over Andy Park of Leroy Pine River in the finals. He had a technical fall, a 1:29 pin and a decision to reach the finals. He was 52-2 on the season.

At 171 lbs., Justin Carnahan took second after dropping a close 7-5 decision to champion Wyatt Cool in their finals match. Carnahan had two pins and a decision to reach the finals. The sophomore was 40-6 on the season.

Logan Zell finished sixth at 125 lbs., losing a 7-5 decision to Nathan Rodlund of Addision in the fifth-place match. The junior was 34-24 on the year.

Cameron Dusenbery was seventh at 285 lbs., edging Luke Yackee of Addision 2-1 in the seventh-place match. The senior was 33-20 on the year.
