Marauders fend off Tribe in fourth for win

Photo by Keith Salisbury ELSIE – With the district title in sight, the host Marauders went 10 of 10 at the free throw line late in the fourth quarter to pull out a 49-43 win over Chesaning in the Class B district at Ovid-Elsie Friday night, March 9.

In a close game throughout, the Marauders led 27-26 at the start of the fourth quarter. The Indians quickly built up a 36-32 lead and were bleeding the clock. But O-E continued to chip away, taking a 37-36 lead. The Tribe responded by sinking a pair of free throws to make it 38-37. Then the Marauders got the lead for good with 1:51 left in the game, making it 39-38.

At that point Chesaning was forced to foul to keep the Marauders from running out the clock, but the home team came through to clinch the victory.

Photo by Keith Salisbury Chesaning’s Sam Forsyth hit a trey with 36 seconds left to cut the lead to 45-41, but the Marauders were too hot at the line.

Ovid-Elsie opened the game with a 9-8 lead at the end of the first period. Chesaning went on a 12-6 run in the second to take a 20-15 lead into the break. The Marauders reversed that, out-scoring the Tribe 12-6 in the third. O-E posted a 22-17 advantage in the final frame.

Seniors Forsyth and Brandon Keys paced the Indians with 12 points apiece. Keys got five of his points in the fourth quarter. Junior Jacob Turnwald added 10 points on the night – six of those coming in the final frame.

Photo by Keith Salisbury Senior Garrett Bishop finished with four points. Junior Cole Higley had three, and junior Jarrett Kelley had two points.

The Indians finished the season with a 13-10 record.
