New Lothrop girls post 66-44 cage win over Lake Fenton

NEW LOTHROP – Caitlyn Bruff scored 14 points, dished out 6 assists, grabbed 5 rebounds and came up with 3 steals last Tuesday to spur New Lothrop’s varsity girls’ basketball team to a 66-44 win over visiting Lake Fenton.

The Lady Hornets attempted a whopping 45 free throw attempts in a physical contest throughout the evening. NL struggled at the charity stripe, missing all but 25 of their 45 tries. Lauryn Tithof was the bright spot at the line as she connected on all 10 of her free tosses.

“It was very physical out there and I thought we were a little sloppy and flat at times,” remarked Coach James Perry. “LF played tough and it took a couple of runs in the third quarter to finally pull away.”

Ahead 34-22 at halftime, the Lady Hornets used a 19-9 third quarter run to put the game away.

Tithof finished with a dozen points and she tied for the team lead in rebounds with six. Brooke Wenzlick also grabbed six caroms to go with her 10 points. Sydney Pope finished with nine points and three steals and Charleigh Birchmeier added seven markers.
