HYDRANTS REPLACED – During the Tuesday, Jan. 2 meeting of the Chesaning Village Council, Administrator Troy Feltman informed the council that five broken fire hydrants have been replaced by contractor Glaeser-Dawes. The hydrant replaced behind Self Serv Lumber had a casting date of 1938. The hydrant replacements along with the water line improvements on North Chapman Street were funded through savings achieved on the Stormwater Asset Management and Wastewater (S.A.W.) grant water projects.

BIKE EVENT – The Village of Chesaning’s Showboat Park will serve as a rest stop for the Great Lakes Bavarian Breakaway 2018 during the weekend of Sept. 29 and 30. The event is an effort to raise funds for multiple sclerosis research. The Great Lakes Bavarian Breakaway starts and ends at Heritage Park in Frankenmuth. The two-day event offers cyclists 30, 50, 75 and 100-mile route options, each returning to Frankenmuth at the end of the day. On Tuesday, Jan. 2, the Chesaning Village Council reviewed the request and agreed to allow the event to use Showboat Park as a rest stop.

ANNEXATION – During the Wednesday, Jan. 10 county services committee meeting at 4 p.m., Saginaw County Commissioners will receive a presentation regarding the request of the Village of Chesaning to annex property located in Chesaning Township owned by Beau Parmeter, at his request. The Saginaw County Board of Commissioners is expected to vote on the issue at its Jan. 16, 5 p.m. meeting.

FIRE RUNS – Chesaning Village Councilman Phil Larner said the Chesaning-Brady Fire Department had a total of 218 runs during 2017. Chuck Sadilek commented that the department never had that many before. Larner explained that a lot of them are mutual aid calls.

CHAMBER RAFFLE WINNER – The winner of the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce biweekly raffle for Wednesday, Dec. 27, was David Tomac, of Chesaning. Guest drawer was Chris Theile, of Swartzmiller Lumber. The first drawing of the 2018 raffle will be on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

SAGINAW CONSERVATION DIST. ANNUAL MEETING – The Saginaw County Conservation District will hold its annual meeting on Thursday, Feb. 15 at the Hartley Outdoor Education Center, 12633 Beaver Road, St. Charles. A short meeting will begin the activities at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to follow. The Wildlife Association will then conduct an informational presentation that includes live hawks and owls. There will also be a silent auction. Tickets are available at the Saginaw Conservation District offices, 178 N. Graham Road, Saginaw, or call (989) 781-1720 for more information. Tickets must be purchased in advance. An election of new directors will also take place at the meeting. The following individuals are up for election: Edward Meisel III, of Saginaw, and Marcia E. Kendall, of St. Charles. Absentee ballots are available at the district office for those unable to attend the meeting.

KC RAFFLE WINNERS – The winners of the Chesaning Knights of Columbus 50/50 raffle for January are Dale Drexler, of New Lothrop, Joe Deitering, of Chesaning, Ryan Hoerner, of Burt, and William Turnwald, of Chesaning.
