Montrose NHS conducts military drive

The Montrose Hill-McCloy High School National Honor Society will be holding its annual school-wide military drive Dec. 5-21. During this time, NHS students will be collecting care package items including, but not limited to: hygiene items, baby wipes, magazines for men and women, hand sanitizer, medicated foot powders, Ziplocs, books, crossword puzzle books, stationary, and playing cards. Students will also be collecting monetary donations to cover the cost of shipping packages. There is a $16 per package shipping fee.

The NHS will have a table set up at Riverside Market Dec. 4-8 from 4 to 7 p.m. to allow community members to show their support.

Montrose substitute teacher and realtor Becky Root will be partnering with the students to support service men and women. This project is close to her heart as she has served Marine Corps wives through the Key Wives Network, and has seen firsthand the impact a package from the home front has on the morale of the troops. During her time serving as a Key Wives volunteer approximately 25 percent of the young Marines in the unit would go through deployment without receiving a care package. Root will be at Riverside Market on Saturday, Dec. 9, collecting care package items and monetary donations from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
