Book Discussion Group: Our selection for the December book discussion is X by Ilyasha Shabazz. This book is the Michigan Humanities Council’s pick for the 2017-2018 Great Michigan Read program. Stop by the library and pick up a copy then join us on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. for discussion and refreshments!

In-Stitches Knitting Group: Our knitting group continues to meet on the second Saturday of each month.

Family Movies: River Rapids Library hosts its Family Movie Day the first Saturday of each month. Patrons are encouraged to wear comfy clothes and bring their own pillows and blankets. Popcorn and drinks will be provided.

Hour of Code: Middle and high school students are invited to join us at RRDL, along with over 100 million other people, for this year’s Hour of Code to be held on Thursday, Dec. 7 from 5:15 – 6:15 p.m. Not to leave out the adults, they can attend the next session from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on the same night. You’ll learn the basics of how programming works in a fun, no pressure setting. Registration is required as both classes are limited to eight people each.

January Workshop: Alternative to Adobe Photoshop on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. We will introduce you to free alternatives to Photoshop and show you how to repair old photos. Registration is required for this class.

St. Charles District Library Board meeting will be Sunday, Dec. 3, at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The book discussion group will meet on Monday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m. to discuss Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult.

The library is a drop-off location for Toys for Tots.

Mid-Michigan Waste Authority Holiday Light Recycling Drive runs through Dec. 15. Don’t throw out your old holiday lights – recycle them! The St. Charles District Library is a collection drop-off site.

Come visit with Santa and his reindeer on Thursday, Dec. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be gift bags for the children, make-and-take Christmas ornament, cookies and hot cocoa.

The Adult Coloring Club will meet on Friday, Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants may bring their own coloring supplies or use the supplies provided by the library. New members are encouraged to join the coloring group!

The Hook & Needle Group will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 26, at 1 p.m. New members are encouraged to join the group.

The Community District Library will have several free Christmas events and crafts activities highlighting the holiday season. Space is limited, so preregistration is required.

On Monday, Dec. 11 from 6 to 7 p.m., the New Lothrop Branch will be hosting a Christmas cookie exchange. Participants are asked to bring two dozen of their favorite cookies or candy, along with the recipe, to share. They should also bring a container to take their goodies home in. On Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 4 p.m., there will be a special story hour featuring Santa Claus at the New Lothrop Branch. He will be reading and listening to Christmas wishes. There will be cookie decorating and a reindeer craft, too. For information, call (810) 638-7575.

Writers’ Group – The Montrose-Jennings Writer’s Group will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 5 and 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. Come join this group of word-lovers that meets in the Community Room on the first and third Tuesday of every month.

Book Club – The Montrose-Jennings Library Book Club will meet on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. All are welcome for book discussions and light refreshments.

It is time for the annual Christmas drawing at the Taymouth Township Library. All proceeds from the $1 tickets will go toward the reading programs held for the community throughout the year. The grand prize will be a children’s sled full of gifts for the entire family. Second prize is a holiday gift set, and third prize is a birdfeeder with 50 pounds of sunflower seed. The tickets are available at the library and the Taymouth Township office. The drawing will be held on Monday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. The library’s hours are Monday from 2 to 9 p.m.; Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m.; and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you have any questions, call the library at (989) 770-4651.

Our next Lego club will be meeting on Thursday, Dec. 21 from 3 - 4 p.m. This is for grades first - sixth.

We offer fax and copy services, lamination, internet, and wi-fi. There are movies to rent free of charge, three week check-outs for books, interloans from other libraries, e-books, and e-magazines.
