Rehmann Health Center announces activity schedule for December

CHESANING – The following services will be offered in December at the Rehmann Health Center, 147 S. Saginaw St. in Chesaning. Due to the retirement of clinic director Lori LaRue, the health center will only be open during the dates and times of the scheduled services.

WIC clinics will be held on the first and third Tuesdays, Dec. 5 and 19, from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. New clients, transfers and those due for re-certification may schedule an appointment by calling (989) 758-3733 and specifying the Chesaning clinic. Walk-ins are welcome to learn more about the supplemental food program provided for pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants and children (ages 1-5) who are eligible.

The immunization clinic will be held on the second and fourth Wednesdays, Dec. 13 and 27, from 9 to 11:15 a.m. on a walk-in basis. Most insurances are accepted, except ones affiliated with General Motors. It is suggested persons call their insurance company first to verify coverage. The health center is a PPO provider. Immunization record updates can be provided at the time of service. The shingles shot (Zostavax) for adults is available and no prescription is required. Clients must be 60 years of age and older to receive this vaccine.

The adult pneumonia vaccine can be administered at this time. Flu, pneumonia and Prevnar 13 shots are covered by Medicare.

Tuberculosis testing will be done on Wednesday, Dec. 13 and 27, from 9 to 11:15 a.m. during the immunization clinic. Test results will have to be read at the Saginaw Health Department two days later.

Women’s Health Services (birth control) will no longer be held in the Chesaning clinic. Contact the Saginaw County Health Department at (989) 758-3870 for information and times of Women’s Health Services held there in December. Birth control services are based on a sliding fee scale and services are provided regardless of ability to pay.

Water testing kits can now be picked up at the Chesaning village office. The lab tests on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays only. Instructions will be given with the sample bottle on how to return it to the Saginaw County Health Department for testing.

Note that lead, arsenic and pesticide testing in water are done only at the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality labs in Lansing. For information, call (517) 335-8184. Testing kits can be sent to interested persons.
