The Nov. 7 election was quiet for most election polls within the Tri- County Citizen coverage area. However, the Hemlock, Bridgeport-Spaulding, Merrill and Owosso school districts on the outer edge of the area had ballot proposals, which impact some readers.

According to preliminary Saginaw County vote tallies, proposals put forth by the Bridgeport-Spaulding, Merrill and Owosso school districts passed. Hemlock’s sinking fund proposal failed at the poll.

The Merrill Public School District had two proposals on the ballot. Proposal 1 requested the renewal of 18 mills for school operations. That proposal passed with 293 yes votes (68.78 percent) to 133 no votes (31.22 percent).

Merrill’s second proposal gives the school district the authority to levy the full 18 mills, countering the Headlee rollback. That proposal also passed, with 267 yes votes (63.27 percent) to 155 no votes (36.73 percent).

The Bridgeport-Spaulding schools sinking fund proposal passed with 693 (50.14 percent) yes votes to 689 (49.86 percent) no votes.

The sinking fund proposal on the ballot for Hemlock Public Schools did not pass, falling short by 31 votes. The proposal received 727 yes votes (48.96 percent) to 758 no votes (51.04 percent).

In Shiawassee County, the Owosso Public Schools’ bond proposal passed with 3,174 yes votes (57.8 percent) to 2,317 no votes (42.2 percent).
