CHESANING VILLAGE PLANNING COMMISSION will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24 in the council chambers, 1100 W. Broad St.


• The SHIAWASSEE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY will meet on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. at the museum/ archives building, 1997 N. M-52 in Owosso. The guest speaker will be Torey Fry, education coordinator at DeVries Nature Conservancy, who will talk about the transition of all at both DeVries and in nature. Fry holds a bachelor of science degree in environmental stewardship. Originally from Kansas, she moved to Traverse City in 2013, where she worked as an environmental educator and preschool coordinator at the Grand Traverse Conservation District. After moving to the Lansing area in 2015, Fry worked at a Montessori school, where she was able to better understand child development and gain more knowledge in experiential learning. The event is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted.

CHESANING LIONS CLUB members will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Lions Hall, 17200 Corunna Road, Chesaning.

MONTROSE AMERICAN LEGION POST #367 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Montrose Senior Citizen Center, 200 Alfred St. Any veteran who wishes to learn more about joining the legion may attend.

CHESANING AREA TASK FORCE meets at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce office. The Task Force encourages visitors and welcomes requests to be placed on the agenda. Anyone interested in serving on the Task Force board in the future or seeking information about Task Force can call (989) 845-6061.

PARK FRIENDS continue to meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 9 to 10 a.m. at Cole Park in Chesaning. It’s a good place to meet new friends and improve the parks. Any questions, call 845-2258.


• The First United Methodist Church of New Lothrop is hosting its annual all-you-can-eat HARVEST DINNER on Wednesday, Nov. 1 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The menu will include Swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, squash, green beans, cole slaw, rolls, pie and beverage. The suggested donation is $10 for adults, $4 for children ages 5-12, and free for ages 4 and under. All are welcome.

• The Shiawassee Patriots 10-under and 12-under Fastpitch travel softball teams are holding a WILD GAME DINNER from 5 to 9 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Owosso VFW Post 9455, 519 S. Chipman St., Owosso, to raise money to fund their upcoming season. Menu items are expected to include salmon, venison, wild boar, pheasant and elk. Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children ages 5 and under. Tickets can be purchased at Owosso VFW Post 9455, 519 S. Chipman St., Owosso; Timlick’s Auto & Truck Repair, 2611 E. M-21, Corunna; Rivals Taphouse & Grill, 2500 E. M-21, Corunna; or by calling (989) 666-1340 or (231) 942-1065. There will be a silent auction, raffle drawing, bake sale, 50/50 drawing and a gun auction sponsored by Buck Shots Firearms LLC of Perry during the dinner. Sponsors are being sought to either donate some of the meat for the event or help cover the cost of some of the wild boar, pheasant or elk. Donations are also being sought for gift cards to help buy vegetables and other items. All donations will be greatly appreciated. Shiawassee Patriots Softball is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. • There will be a SPAGHETTI DINNER FUNDRAISER benefitting Underground Railroad in Saginaw on Sunday, Oct. 29 from noon to 3 p.m. at Nativity Lutheran Church, 625 W. Clinton St., St. Charles. The menu will include spaghetti, salad, garlic toast and homemade pies. The suggested donation is $5, free for children ages 7 and under.

• There will be an all-you-can-eat SWISS STEAK SUPPER on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Burt United Methodist Church, 12799 Nichols Road. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 12, and free for ages 4 and under.

• The Owosso WFLA-ZCBJ Lodge #242 is taking orders for HOMEMADE DUMPLINGS at the hall, 1775 Owosso Ave., Owosso. Dumplings will be by pre-order only. Orders must be placed by noon on Monday, Nov. 13. The cost is $7 for two dozen. Dumplings will be available for pick-up on Thursday, Nov. 16 from noon to 5 p.m. Call (989) 723-5926 or (517) 290-1015 to place an order.


• The MID-MICHIGAN CHAPTER OF HEARING LOSS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA meets on the fourth Monday of each month, excluding holidays, at 7 p.m. in Curtiss Hall, Room C129 at Saginaw Valley State University, 7400 Bay Road, University Center. LOVE HEALS: A NIGHT FOR SHELLY will be held on Sunday, Nov. 5 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Back Forty Bar and Grill, 15952 Oakley Road, Chesaning. Shelly Rupple-English was recently diagnosed with stage four appendix cancer, and has been unable to work since she was first hospitalized in August. The $10 admission donation includes a pig roast dinner, with tickets available at the Back Forty Bar and Grill, LaClair Sales, Family Tavern or at the door the night of the event. There will be a cash bar, along with live music by the Bandura Gypsies, Les Older, Zachary James, Monte Pride, and the Rupple Brother and Company, psychic readings, henna tattoos, 50/50 drawing, bake sale, and raffles for prizes, including a $1,000 RootNote Landscape Solutions gift certificate, a wheelbarrow of alcohol, and more. • The WFLA-ZCBJ Lodge #242, 1775 Owosso Ave., Owosso, presents POLKA DANCING, with a three-piece band featuring Jim and Terri Enrietti, on Sunday, Oct. 22. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. with dancing from 2 to 6 p.m. Admission is $8 per person or $15 for two. Sandwiches, dessert and coffee will be available for purchase. There will also be a cash bar and a bake sale. This will be the first time the Enriettis have played at the ZCBJ Hall.

• New Lothrop VFW Auxiliary #6579 is hosting a CASINO BUS TRIP to Firekeepers Casino near Battle Creek on Monday, Oct. 30. The cost is $40. Participants receive $20 back in play and $5 in food credits. The bus leaves the Good Shepherd Church parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and returns at approximately 4:30 p.m. Call Susan at (810) 496-7647 to reserve a seat.

• The second annual Ducks Unlimited GUN BASH will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27 at the Candlelite Banquet Center, 6817 Dixie Higway, Bridgeport. Tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for Greenwings, or $300 for a hunters’ table of eight (captain gets $100 raffle package). Tickets include Ducks Unlimited membership, heavy hors d’oeuvres and open bar. The evening includes various gun raffles, games, silent auction and more. • The St. Charles Methodist Women’s CHRISTMAS BAZAAR will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the St. Charles United Methodist Church, 301 W. Belle Ave., St. Charles, Tables and spaces are $20 each. Setup for crafters will be Friday, Nov. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m., or Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 a.m. All crafters will leave displays up until 3 p.m. on Nov. 11. • A CRAFT BAZAAR will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1629 W. Brady Road, Chesaning. The church is located at the west end of Chesaning on M-57. There will be a large variety of items available, including homemade crafts, jewelry, cookies and used books. There are still openings for vendors, so anyone interested should contact Dianne Stanuszek at (989) 865-9709 for more information.

• The Oakley Community Church Ladies’ Group will be having its annual CRAFT BAZAAR on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oakley Village Hall. Organizers are looking for crafters and a few vendors. Tables are available for $15. They will be serving lunch and will also be having a bake sale. • The Nelson United Methodist Church, 5950 S. Hemlock Road, will host a HOLIDAY BAZAAR with cookie walk, baked goods, crafts and white elephant items on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Montrose United Methodist Church, 158 E. State St. (M-57), will host a CHRISTMAS BAZAAR AND COOKIE WALK on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vendors are needed. For information, call Jackie at (810) 639-6812.

PRIME TIMERS OF ST. CHARLES and surrounding areas meet for fellowship and bingo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the fellowship hall of Nativity Lutheran Church, 625 W. Clinton St., in St. Charles. Friends of all ages are welcome, and high school students out for the summer are encouraged to join in. Bring a couple dollars’ worth of quarters and, if possible, a dish to pass for the potluck lunch. For more information, contact the church at (989) 865-9964.
