St. Charles student nominated for Navy Sea Cadet of the Year

Tanner Wilkins Tanner Wilkins ST. CHARLES – During the last weekend of September, Tanner Wilkins, 15, a sophomore at St. Charles High School, received a top honor as a Navy Sea Cadet based in Saginaw. He is the son of Joe and Sara Wilkins.

Sara said Tanner received the best of the best award and honor by being nominated and picked for Navy Sea Cadet of the Year by The Navy League of the United States. She explained that this is a top award given to only a select few cadets across the United States. The criteria consists of an outstanding cadet in the following areas: academics, leadership, attitude, morals/values, character, physical fitness, extracurricular activities and appearance.

She said, “He has worked very hard since he started several years ago in the Navy Sea Cadets and is climbing in rank rapidly by his outstanding performance. He is planning a career in the Navy and looking at the possibility of applying at Annapolis, at the Naval Academy. Tanner is currently petty officer third class and will move to the rank of petty officer second class in mid-October. He will be eligible for chief in 2018.”
