CHS soccer guys blank Ithaca, lose to Nouvel

CHESANING – Ben Schroeder scored twice and assisted on two other goals last Wednesday as Chesaning’s varsity boys’ soccer team blanked visiting Ithaca, 5-0.

The Indians fell to host Saginaw Nouvel the next day, 4-2.

Schroeder assisted on a goal by Bryce Harrod that accounted for all of the scoring in the first half against Ithaca. Schroeder scored two of the four Chesaning goals in the second half and assisted on a third.

Brendan Greenfelder also had a pair of second half goals while Lucas Angst picked up an assist.

“The back line of Christian Painter, Justin Gross, Jon Corey, Dan Lewis and Josh Rolfe did an excellent job of denying Ithaca scoring opportunities,” praised Tribe coach Cindy Weisenberger.

Tanner Williams had three saves in goal against the Yellowjackets.

The Tribe took an early lead the next day against Nouvel, thanks to a goal by Tyler Willing, assisted by Greenfelder, within the first minute of play. But the Panthers responded with a pair of scores later in the half to grab a 2-1 edge at intermission.

Nouvel tacked on another pair of goals in the second half before Schroeder completed the scoring for the day off an assist by Willing with about 16 minutes remaining in the game.

“We had a couple of breakaways that we were unable to capitalize on and we had a little difficulty with the accuracy and weight of our passes, but that will improve as we play more games on grass,” concluded Coach Weisenberger.
