CHESANING – On Saturday, Sept. 16, the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce celebrates 170 years of historic Chesaning with a very special relaxed outdoor dinner served on the footbridge overlooking the river rapids on the Shiawassee River.

The event was orchestrated by Bobbi McIntyre, Jessie Stewart and Valina James, who serve on the Chesaning Chamber Board of Directors, along with chamber executive director Kate Weber.

McIntyre said, “Sept. 16, 2017 will be a great night to celebrate Chesaning. The dinner over the bridge is an event where residents, business owners and fans can mingle and reminisce. Chesaning and its citizens have prevailed through many changes. By preserving our past, we can move into our future.”

It’s an opportunity to highlight local restaurants while celebrating the community’s past, present and future. Local restaurants/suppliers participating include Frank’s Supermarket, Hungry Howie’s, Main Beverage, The Malt Shop, McDonalds Restaurant, PinTown Pizza, Riverfront Grille, Showboat Restaurant and Subway Restaurant.

The chamber is currently requesting/ accepting entries of historic artifacts to showcase during the event. There’s a prize for the individual who contributes the most unusual item. The deadline for submitting historical items is Sept. 12. The winner will be selected at the board meeting on the Thursday before the event. The winner receives two tickets to the dinner. There will also be a silent auction for five individual pictures from Chesaning’s historic past. The pictures feature the Heritage House, the bridge over Shiawassee, the Shiawassee River, the Teddy Bear House and the Showboat.

The much-anticipated drawing for the Ford F-150 pickup truck provided by Mel Ervin Ford will take place during the celebration at 8 p.m. (Note that if truck raffle ticket sales do not reach the minimum requirement, the raffle becomes a 50/50 drawing.) Ticket holders need not be present to win.

The Chesaning 170th Birthday Celebration will be held rain or shine with the pavilion at Cole Park as a backup site.

Despite being past the Sept. 1, reservation date, there are a handful of tickets ($50 each) remaining for purchase. The main entre is a choice of broasted chicken or prime rib. Those wanting to join Chesaning’s 170th Birthday Celebration should contact the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce at (989) 845-3055, immediately.
