NEW HAVEN TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, at the township hall, 2705 E. Easton, Owosso.

CHAPIN TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at the township hall, 21481 Peet Road, Henderson.

SWAN CREEK TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14 in the Township Hall, 11415 Lakefield Road, St. Charles.

MONTROSE TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 in the Township Hall, 139 S. Saginaw.

CHESANING VILLAGE COUNCIL will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, in the council chambers at the village office, 1100 W. Broad Street.

ALBEE TOWNSHIP PLANNING COMMISSION will meet at 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at the township hall, 10645 East Road, Burt.


• The CHESANING AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY will meet for its annual picnic on Monday, Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. in the pavilion at Showboat Park. Chicken and beverages will be provided. Attendees should bring a passing dish and their own table service. The public is invited to attend.

• The ST. CHARLES AMERICAN LEGION POST 468 meets on the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. in the American Legion Hall, St. Charles.

• The BURT AMERICAN LEGION POST #99 meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Burt Opera House, 12888 Nichols Road, Burt.

CHESANING SPORTS BOOSTERS will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. in room 401 at Chesaning High School.

• The ST. CHARLES LIONS CLUB will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. at the St. Charles United Methodist Church, 301 W. Belle St., St. Charles.

• Those interested in researching family history can search the SHIAWASSEE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY archives. They can find a past family member among the many photos of the early 1900s schools. Post cards, newspapers clippings and business directories show early businesses that perhaps a grandfather or great-grandfather owned. Copies of marriage licenses and obituaries are among the historically significant paper articles they have. The archives also has all of the Owosso High School yearbooks. The history of the towns in Shiawassee County are also available for viewing. The archives also has an extensive collection of Civil War information for Shiawassee, Genesee and Saginaw counties. The Shiawassee County Historical Society is located at 1997 N. M-52, Owosso. Summer hours (through October) are Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no admission fee, but donations are accepted.


• New Wine Church, 734 Brady St., Chesaning, holds a FREE COMMUNITY DINNER on the third Saturday of the month

from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Menus vary each month. Those who need a ride can call (989) 845-7878.

• There will be a WET BURRITO DINNER at the St. Charles Masonic Temple every third Friday of the month from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is $10. The Masons will also deliver. Call (989) 865-8568.

• St. Cyril Catholic Church, 517 E. Main St., Bannister, will hold a CHICKEN/HAM DINNER on Sunday, Sept. 10. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Dinner will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the parish hall. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 12 and under, free for preschoolers.

• The Montrose Eagles Club, 11416 Vienna Road, Montrose, will host BREAKFAST on the fourth Sunday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-12, and free for ages 3 and under. For takeouts, call (810) 639-5886.


• The Memorial Healthcare free DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. on the third Friday of the month at the Owosso Senior Center, 300 N. Washington St.

• The Memorial Healthcare PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP meets on the third Monday of the month from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Community Room at the Memorial Cancer Center, 721 N. Shiawassee St., Owosso. For more information, call (989) 729-4786.


* The Montrose Township Senior Center will host its first annual COMMUNITY YARD SALE AND CRAFT FAIR fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Indoor and outdoor rental space is available. Call (810) 639-2822 for more information.

* The Montrose Township Senior Center and many other local businesses and community groups are banding together for a SUPPLIES FOR SUCCESS DRIVE to ensure Montrose students have the essentials to learn and succeed

this school year. Supplies needed include: composition books, number two pencils, erasers, colored pencils, crayons, dry erase markers, washable markers, two-pocket folders, spiral notebooks, backpacks, one, two and three inch binders, glue bottles and sticks, small scissors, hand sanitizer, facial tissue, pencil boxes or pouches, ink pens, and highlighters. To participate, purchase any of the items on the list and drop donations at the following participating businesses by Aug. 31: Montrose Township Senior Center, Riverside Market, Sav On Drugs, Dollar General, Lamb of God Fellowship, Montrose Methodist Church and Good Shepherd Catholic Church. • There will be a BACKPACK/SCHOOL SUPPLY GIVEAWAY on Thursday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at St. Charles Elementary School. Any student in the St. Charles School District can select free needed school supplies for the next school year at the event. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church has organized the giveaway, with the support of the St. Charles Haunted House Association, St. Charles Lions Club. LINC and Mary of the Immaculate Conception parishioners.

• Michigan Swim Dogs will host the CHESANING FALL CLASSIC featuring a bear dog water race, field trial and treeing contest on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Great Northern Raccoon Club, 13821 Bishop Road, Chesaning. ST. CHARLES SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST COMMUNITY CENTER is open the first and third Thursday of every month from 6:30 until 8 p.m. The center is located at the corner of Clinton and Marcy Streets in St. Charles, and serves those who are in need of gently used clothing, household items and furniture (when available). The center

also accept donations of gently used clothing, household items and furniture. Interested persons should stop by if they need assistance or have any questions.


• The St. Charles High School CLASS OF 1992’s 25th year reunion will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Kimberly Oaks Golf Course in St. Charles. Dinner, DJ and cash bar will be provided. Invitations will be emailed. • The New Lothrop High School Class of 1987 30TH YEAR CLASS REUNION will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. at Gracie’s Sidekick. There is no need to send money or RSVP, just come. New Lothrop’s homecoming will be on Friday, Sept. 15 for those who want to attend.

• The Owosso High School Class of 1967’s 50TH YEAR REUNION will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Comstock Inn, Owosso. There will be a class mates get-together on Friday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. at Jumbo’s in Owosso. • Vendors are wanted for a CRAFTS BAZAAR to be held on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1629 W. Brady Road, Chesaning. Registration is $20 for an eight foot space, $25 after Oct. 6, $5 less for those who bring their own table. A $6 lunch is available. To register, contact Diane Stanuszek at (989) 865-9709.


CHESANING UNION SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, in the high school media center.
