Book Discussion Group: Our selection for the July book discussion is Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman. Stop by the library and pick up a copy then join us on Wednesday, July 19, at 7 p.m. for discussion and refreshments!

Summer Reading Program: Sign-up for summer reading is underway. This year’s theme is “Build a Better World,” and runs until noon, July 28.

Services Available: Faxing $2 for the first page and $1 for each additional page. Copies are 15 cents for black and white and 50 cents for color copies. Laminating is available for $1 per page.

Family Movies: River Rapids Library will host its Family Movie Day on Mondays at 1 p.m. beginning June 26. They will run through Aug. 14. Patrons are encouraged to wear comfy clothes and bring their own pillows and blankets. Popcorn and drinks are provided.

Summer Hours: Monday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Tuesday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Wednesday closed, Thursday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Friday – 10 – 2 p.m., Saturday closed.

The Summer Reading program for all ages runs through July 28. Stop by the library to register or visit our website for program information. The program is offered during the summer months in an effort to keep kids reading! Every time you finish a reading log, you can bring it back into the library for a prize. Each reading log is used as an entry for our grand prize drawing.

The following events will be held throughout the summer for kids and families to enjoy:

Tuesday July 18th– Bowling Camp at the Alley – 11am to 1pm

Come to The Alley in St. Charles for a one-of-a-kind FREE bowling camp sponsored by the St. Charles District Library. Learn how to bowl from experts, learn how to score a game and just come to have some fun! Hot dogs and drinks will be available for $1 each. Event is for AGES 4-18. Parent/Guardian Supervision required during camp. You must register at library before event to attend!

Wednesday July 26th - Monster Make-up class – noon to 2 p.m. Come take this incredible class to learn about what it takes to do creepy and fun monster make up from a professional artist from Astute Artistry! Kids will get a hands-on chance to apply and create their own monster or zombie makeup!

Friday July 28th – Candy Sushi/Game Day – 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Come to our end of the program party where kids will get to make candy sushi out of common food items including: Fruit roll ups, rice krispy treats and gummies. Also try out some of the board games available for play. Make sure you bring any last completed reading logs back to the library! Come help us end the summer reading program with a bang!

The Adult Coloring Group will meet on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Hook & Needle Group will meet on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at 1 p.m.

The New Lothrop Branch of the Community District Library will hold a story time at 11 a.m. each Wednesday through Aug. 16. Participants will listen to exciting stories ready by special guests each session and make a fun craft.

Wildlife Safari will be at the New Lothrop branch on Wednesday, July 26 at 4 p.m. Preregistration is required.

On Tuesday, July 18, at 4 p.m., the New Lothrop branch will host a Cinderella Party. Come dressed as a prince or princess and play games, make crafts and have a special treat.

Writers’ Group – The Montrose-Jennings Writer’s Group will meet on July 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. Come join this group of word-lovers that meets in the Community Room on the first and third Tuesday of every month.

Social Security Awareness – The Montrose- Jennings Library will hold a Social Security Awareness class on July 18 and 20 at 6 p.m. Prepare for retirement by learning more about your social security benefits. Christina Stokes from SOFA, the Society of Financial Awareness, will lead this educational seminar.

Pop-up Greeting Cards – The Montrose- Jennings Library will hold a Pop-up Greeting Card class on Thursday, July 27 at 6 p.m. Make your own pop-up creation for birthdays and other holidays.

You’ll also learn some cool money-folding techniques.

Our live animal program “Animals in Our Environment” is Tuesday, July 25 at 3 p.m. All are welcome. Sign up for our Reading Program to win prizes. You earn a prize for every 2 hours of reading. We offer free wi-fi and free movie rental. Stop in and check us out.
