Lady Hornets reach regional finals, lose to Millington

OTISVILLE – New Lothrop’s varsity girls’ softball team whipped Laker HS, 7-1, on Saturday, June 10, at LakeVille High School in a regional semi-final tilt before finally bowing out against Millington in the regional title game, 12-0.

Kelsay Moore allowed just five hits while striking out seven and walking three to pick up the win on the slab for NL against Laker. Erin Colston and Alayna Mantei each went 3 for 4 at the plate while Julia Martin tacked on a couple of hits for NL.

The Lady Hornets then took on powerful Millington in the championship contest and lost to the Lady Cardinals, 12-0. Mantei recorded the only hit for New Lothrop in the five inning loss.

“We kind of knew what to expect coming into today’s games,” commented NL mentor Jeff Polzin, whose squad finished the season with a solid 22-14 overall record. “We played well against Laker and then ran into a Goliath with Millington, which is a very well-rounded team. Overall, this was a very nice season for our team.
