Tribe netters blank Alma

Photo by Keith Salisbury CHESANING – The Indian varsity tennis girls came away with an 8-0 win over Alma in their only match of the week on Wednesday, May 10, but the battle was closer than the final result would indicate.

Four of the matches went to three sets, with the Indians prevailing in all of them.

At number one singles, Anna Bates won 6-5, 5-7, 6-2. At number two singles, Casey Hartt won 6-3, 6-0. At the number three spot, Brooke Miller won 5-7, 6-1, 6-3. At number four, Kaylynn Princinsky won 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles play, Brook Keck and Caleigh Amman teamed for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 comeback win at the number one spot. Stephanie Coon and Abbey Bitterman won 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-3 at number two. Bretlyn Warner and Jadyn Mathis won 6-4, 6-3 at number three. The number four team of Eve Griffin and Tina Chen won 6-0, 6-3.

Photo by Keith Salisbury The Lady Indians also hosted a fundraiser for brain cancer at the meet. Business sponsors were Pintown Pizza and Lanes, Ace Hardware and Line Street Dental.

The girls were 8-1 heading into the Tri-Valley Conference tournament played on Friday, May 12. They will face Corunna and Bay City All Saints this week before heading to the regional tournament at Portland on Thursday, May 18, with play scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. The regional field will also consist of Durand, Flint Southwestern Classical Academy, Hamady, Ithaca, Lansing Catholic, Lansing Christian, Leslie, Mt Morris, Ovid-Elsie and Portland.
