71st Anniversary

William and Katherine Flynn in 1946. William and Katherine Flynn in 1946. On May 18, 2017, William and Catherine (Ruddy) Flynn, from New Lothrop, will celebrate their 71st wedding anniversary. They were married in 1946, at St. Robert Catholic Church, in Flushing. Bill will be 94 on August 8, 2017, and Kay turned 91 on April 6, 2017.

Bill and Kay have seven children: Patti (Phil) Estep, of Bridgeport, Tim (Char), of East Leroy, Randy (Deb), of Flushing, Lori Flynn, of Flint, Lana (Van) Nickert, of Kalamazoo, Ryan Flynn (and girlfriend, Shelly Sovis, of Flushing), of New Lothrop, and Julie (Mark) Barbour, of Lake Odessa. They also have 17 grandchildren, and the number of great-grandchildren is approaching 40.

Bill was a rural mail carrier in New Lothrop for 30 years, retiring in November of 1981. For many years he also worked on his farm with his father after getting home from his mail route. He still enjoys golf, and bowls on a league in Flushing, and there are times he still bowls a 200 game.

William and Katherine Flynn. William and Katherine Flynn. Kate is one of the best homemakers God ever put on this earth. Her meals and desserts put smiles on anyone’s face that walks through their door.

The Flynn Family is blessed with a closeness that is displayed every time a holiday or special family event rolls around. This close-knit Irish clan is especially fond of St. Patrick’s Day. The love of sports – especially the Detroit Tigers – has also played an important role in their lives. Mr. & Mrs. Flynn even spent part of their honeymoon at a Tigers’ doubleheader at the old Briggs Stadium.

They have instilled a deep faith in each of their offspring, teaching them that if they put God first, everything else will fall into place. Whether related or not, the minute anyone walks into their home, they become family forever.
