Amphitheater’s Summer Concert Series starts July 12

CLIO – The City of Clio will begin its annual Summer Concert Series starting this Tuesday, July 12. This year’s event will feature tribute artists paying homage to famous performers or musical eras including the Beatles, Motown, Woodstock, 80’s, Tim McGraw and Shania Twain. The amphitheater will also be home to Monday evening free gospel concerts, sponsored by Bethany United Methodist Church. The free gospel concerts will run July 11 until Sept. 12.

The Bob Seger tribute band The System will kick off the season with a July 12 performance. The group was founded in 2004 and the current members have been together since 2011, band member Verle Winningham said.

The System is comprised of George Nichols as Seger, lead singer, guitar and piano; and members Charlie Bauman, on keyboard, guitar and vocals; Karl Ericksen, vocals and bassist; Verle Winningham, guitarist; and drummer Bernie Curry.

The System’s music includes recreations of Seger’s classic 70s concert experiences, according to its bio.

The group has performed in front of hundreds of thousands of fans throughout the Midwest for more than a decade.

The rest of the 2016 Summer Concert Series will continue as follows: Tuesday, July 19 – Persuasion – Motown tribute; Tuesday, July 26 – Shout – Beatles tribute; Tuesday, Aug. 2 – Magic Bus – Woodstock tribute; Tuesday, Aug. 9 – The Rockshow – tribute to the 80’s; and Thursday, Aug. 11 – Shania Twain and Adam D. Tucker – Shania Twain and Tim McGraw tribute.

This year marks the amphitheater’s 27th season. The venue is located at 301 Rogers Lodge Dr. and seats 3,100 guests - 2,200 of which are permanent theater-type seats.

All shows feature a concession stand food and beverages for sale. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or at Clio City Hall, 505 W. Vienna St. Cost is $6 per show or $25 for season passes. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the show is set to run from 7 to 10 p.m.

The Monday Evening Gospel Concerts will start at the amphitheater on Monday, July 11 with a performance by the Cavalrymen. Other performances are The Sheldons on July 18; The Forresters on July 25; The Singing Vaughnes on Aug. 1; The Rob Mills Family on Aug. 15; The Gospelmen on Aug. 22; 4 One Quartet on Aug. 29; and Justified on Sept. 12. The Monday concerts will begin at 7 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Bethany United Methodist Church, 353 E. Vienna St. in Clio. Concerts are free and there are no tickets needed, though free-will offerings are collected.
