Lady Hornets hold off Devils for win

NEW LOTHROP – New Lothrop’s varsity cagegirls closed out their December schedule with a 48-34 win over visiting Lake Fenton on Monday, Dec. 21.

The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the first quarter, then got outscored 9-6 in the second for a 20-14 lead at the half. The Hornets extended their lead with a 17-9 run in the third before playing to an 11-11 tie in the fourth.

“We had two strong quarter, the first and third, but struggled taking care of the ball in the other two,” said New Lothrop coach James Perry.

Claudia Freed powered the Hornet attack with 20 points, including a pair of treys, and nine rebounds. Caitlyn Bruff added 10 points with three assists. Nicole Theodore hauled down a team-leading nine rebounds. Ally Sovis had six boards with three steals and three assists.

“We’re 4-1 heading into the break, but we have lots of areas we can improve in, and we look forward to working hard over break,” Coach Perry said.


Hornets edge Blue Devils, 33-24

New Lothrop’s JV cagegirls improved to 5-0 on the young season Monday night with a 33-24 win over Lake Fenton. Olivia Johnson and Lauren Tithof led the Hornets with nine points apiece. Johnson also had a team-high 10 rebounds. Alex Bedrosian grabbed seven boards to go with five points and two steals. Makaila Moore and Malary Thorsby each had three points and five rebounds.
