CHARLES – Christmas came early last Tuesday for six elementary students in St. Charles. The St. Charles Haunted House Association awarded students with brand new bicycles during its annual Haunted House Association Christmas Bike giveaway. The giveaway also included new bike helmets for all six recipients, courtesy of St. Mary’s Field and Neuroscience Institute and three $50 gift cards to Meijer. Additional bike contributions this year came from the Meijer in Alma.

Students throughout the elementary school were chosen for their new bikes through a school drawing. Students were asked to participate in the bike giveaway only if they truly wanted and/ or were in need of a new bicycle.

Six names were drawn in total and two bikes were given away to each grade bracket: kindergarten and first grade, second and third and fourth and fifth graders.

Haunted House Association members Michael and Lisa Guyton, Barney Krawczyk; Nick Kerkau and Dylan Moorehead were on hand at the elementary school on Tuesday, Dec. 22 in order to surprise students with the bikes.

The winners of the drawing and new bicycle owners were first graders Kayla Sova and Landen Sherven, second grader Cameron Erskine, third grader Alexis Graham and fifth grade students Matthias Hopkins and Gracie Paul.

The bike giveaway comes on the shirttails of the association’s Village of the Living Dead 2015 haunted season. The non-profit haunted house donates annually to organizations in and around St. Charles, this year awarding some $22,000 to the St. Charles area community.
