(TCC Photo by Mandilee Loomis) NEW LOTHROP – For the first time ever two groups within New Lothrop Area Public Schools are combining efforts to present a dinner theatre fundraiser.

The New Lothrop Schools Drama Club and the (junior) Class of 2016’s Prom Committee will present Jonathan Rand’s “Check, Please: Disasters and Disappointments in Dining and Dating” March 20 - 22.

The spaghetti-dinner fundraising event will feature a three-course meal as well as a two-hour play performed by 35 New Lothrop students from grades seven to 12.

The event will help to raise funds for this year’s junior/senior prom and the district’s drama club.

“Check, Please” is a comedy incorporating a series of sketches to expose bad behaviors, strange personalities, and unprofessional workers that one often finds in a restaurant setting, explained co-director Mary Jane Krupp.

She added the show should provide comic relief while emphasizing the importance of kindness.

“Instead of jumping to conclusions and judging people, (the play teaches) choosing compassion instead of being condescending and judgmental,” she said.

The play is co-directed by Krupp, Calvin Baker, and Judy Mills. Students have been rehearsing since January, Krupp said.

The meal includes beverages, salad, breadsticks, a spaghetti dinner, and dessert, served in the high school cafeteria. Immediately following the meal, guests will be escorted to the auditorium to enjoy the feature-length play.

Cost is $15 and show times are: Friday and Saturday March 20 and 21 from 6:45 to 9:30 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) and Sunday, March 22 from 12:45 to 3:30 p.m. with the show starting at 1:30 p.m. (doors open at 12:30 p.m.)

The drama club and prom committee are hoping to sell at least 150 tickets per performance. To order tickets, call the high school office at (810) 638-5054 or Mary Jane Krupp at (810) 247-5211. Tickets are also available from cast members or the junior Class of 2016.
