The summer reading programs have started, but you still have time to sign up! Monday, July 1, join us for a Scavenger Hunt in and around the library at 2 p.m. There will be no Garden Club on Thursday as the library will be closed for Independence Day. We will be back at in on Thursday, July 11!

Teens: come create Graffiti with us on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the library. You probably want to wear old clothes because we will be using spray paint.

The Book Discussion Group is reading When God Was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman for our July book. We will be meeting Wednesday, July 17 at 7 p.m. Stop in and pick up a copy to enjoy. Bring a friend; there will be yummy refreshments!

Are you looking for something fun to do this summer? The Michigan Activity Pass allows you to check out free passes to museums and cultural activities in Michigan. Go to www.riverrapidslibrary.org and click on the hot air balloon on the left side.

The library will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in honor of Independence Day. The library will be open its regularly scheduled hours of 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Friday, July 5.

Our Summer Reading Program begins Tuesday, July 9! Registration begins at 2 p.m. Participants will receive a reading log, stickers, and a bookmark. There will be prizes for reading and activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We have free day passes to our state and local parks through the MI Big Green Gym program. Once checked out, you have one week to redeem it.

You can also print a Michigan Activity Pass through the library. There are passes to 60 museums, nature centers, etc. Go to http://michiganactivitypass.info or come to the library on Tuesday or Thursday.

The New Lothrop Branch of the Community District Library will host Origami with Ming Louie on Wednesday, July 10 at 10:30 a.m. Origami is a centuries old craft from the Far East that may enhance a sense of competence as well as a challenging puzzle for young adults. This program culminates with participants learning to fold a paper crane. This is a parent/child program.

The ever popular Science Alive! animals will visit the branch on July 17 for two programs, at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Space is limited to insure plenty of hands on contact so preregistration is required for both sessions.

Please call 810-638-7575 to register for either of these events. The branch is inside the New Lothrop Elementary school library, located at 9387 Genesee St.

All branches of the Community District Library will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in honor of Independence Day. Normal hours will resume on Friday, July 5.

The Genesee District Library and all its branches will be closed Thursday, July 4 for Independence Day. But you can still check out their website 24/7 at www.thegdl.org for access to digital media, music downloads, and more!

Friends of the Montrose-Jennings Library will be holding our monthly meeting this Wednesday, July 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the Jennings Memorial Library in the Community Room. Come join us as we discuss ways to support our local GDL branch!

The Friends are also collecting gently used books, CDs, and DVDs to sell during our Annual Blueberry Festival Used Book Sale. Support your branch while spring cleaning! Bagged/boxed drop offs are accepted during the regular branch hours.
