Clio Firemen’s event comes “Home”


CLIO – Summer in Clio means many things for many people. Longer nights, warmer days, no school, or maybe more time spent in the Clio City Park.

For over seven decades it has also meant enjoying the annual Clio Firemen’s Homecoming. Each year hundreds of visitors attend the event that includes a parade, carnival midway, entertainment, and most of all, family fun.

The 76th Annual Clio Firemen’s Homecoming Carnival and Parade is scheduled to arrive in Clio this year June 12 through June 15 at Clio Firemen’s Park, G-1170 W. Wilson Road in Clio (northeast corner of N. Saginaw Road and W. Wilson Road.)

This year’s event will kick off with the Carnival Midway, by T. J. Schmidt & Company, that will run from 6 p.m. until 12 a.m. Wednesday, June 12 until Friday, June 14; and Saturday, June 15 from 12 noon until 12 a.m.

An entertainment tent will host live music Thursday through Saturday from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m. Featured bands include Cash O’Riley & The Downright Daddies, Alter Ego, and Ross Mead & The Yankee Trash.

The annual Firemen’s Homecoming Parade will be featured on Thursday, June 13 at 7 p.m. in downtown Clio. The procession will start in the Mott Community College parking lot on W. Vienna Road features a variety of businesses, organizations, events, acts, entertainment, etc. New entries will include a new business in Clio, The Black Horse Tavern, that plans to feature some 30 to 40 horses walking in the parade this year, stated Clio Area Fire Department Fire Chief Gary Domerese.

Other events slated during Firemen’s Homecoming include a C.R.C 4-Wheel Drive Club Mud Bog on Saturday, June 15 at 3 p.m.; a Raffle with a 1st prize of $1,000 or 10-Point Crossbow package; a Bingo and Casino Tent Wednesday through Saturday from 6 p.m. until 12 a.m.; and monster truck rides all week.
