Parents and family invited to join in for hands-on education

ST. CHARLES – Parents and family members are invited to learn with their students at the St. Charles Elementary Learning Fair on Feb. 5.

The event is designed to offer hands-on, fun learning activities in an environment where parents can participate with their child’s education. In recent years, the event has drawn in about 350 people.

Some of the different stations this year include Feet By the Foot (estimating and measurement), Making Lightning (static electricity), Musical Straws (working with pitch), Ice Cream in a Bag (lowering the freezing temperature of water), Runaway Pepper (water surface tension), Make Your Own Bouncy Balls (mixing solutions and agents reacting), Simple Wilderness Survival tips (making a compass and identifying plants), Edible Machinery (simple and complex machines), Math Facts in a Flash (trying out new technologies), a Valentine’s bookmark craft, Artful Thinking and a scavenger hunt.

The event also includes a book swap, where visitors bring in a slightly used book and take a different title home with them.

The event is scheduled for Feb. 5 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the St. Charles Elementary School. For more information, call the school at (989) 865-9210.
