Chesaning teacher forms economic team to visit Federal Reserve

BY JEANNE MARCELLO STAFF REPORTER

CHESANING – Economics teacher Nathaniel Smith has formed a student economics team, according to Chesaning High School Principal Stephan Clark. The team will be going to the Federal Reserve in Detroit on April 16 for a presentation on the economy.

“It’s the first time we’ve ever done it,” Clark said.

Smith told the Citizen, “The High School Fed Challenge is an academic competition that provides students grades 9–12 the opportunity to study the U.S. economy through the lens of the U.S. central bank. The students will put together a 15 minute presentation that analyzes the U.S. economy, presents a short-term forecast for the economy, and makes a monetary policy recommendation. The team must then defend its presentation before a panel of Fed economists in a 10-minute question-and-answer session.”

The students on Chesaning’s team are: Brody Cragg, Katelyn Beckman, Kayla Richmond, Jared Weisenberger, and Sloan McDonagh.
