CLUBS AND CIVIC GROUPS
• Guenther Loepertz will be the speaker for the
Feb. 7 meeting of the FLINT GENEALOGICAL
SOCIETY. He was born in Germany, immigrating to the Rochester, N.Y. Area in 1951, and
residing in Michigan since 1966. He became
interested in genealogy in the late 1970s and
began “chasing dead people” seriously about
1995. He will be talking about aunts and
uncles who moved from the Perry, Wyoming
County, N.Y. Area to Michigan, principally to the
Flint, Elba, Atlas and Goodrich areas during the
1850s. Ancestor names of his wife's family
include Dewitt, Bush, Sanford, Bull, Hoyt,
Leddick, McIntyre and Homan. The Flint
Genealogical Society meets the first Tuesday of
the month at 7 p.m. at the Burton Senior
Citizens Center, 3410 S. Grand Traverse Ave.,
Burton, just north of Bristol Road and I-475,
and behind Holy Redeemer Church. The meeting is always free and open to everyone interested. The society is not geared just for Flint
as the members represent Genesee County,
Shiawassee County, Lapeer County and points
all around the area.
• MONTROSE HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION
members will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6,
at the Montrose Historical and Telephone
Pioneer Museum, 144 E. Hickory St.
• NEW LOTHROP LIONS CLUB will meet at 7
p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the New Lothrop
Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
• CHESANING AMERICAN LEGION POST

• The TRI-CITY WOOD CARVERS meet at 7
p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the
Saginaw Township Fire Station Number Three
on Shattuck Road. Carving topics are discussed of interest to carvers of all skill levels.
FUNDRAISERS
• There will be a Bridging The Gap SCRAPBOOKING CROP on Saturday, March 10 from
10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (doors open at 9:45 a.m.) at
the Riverfront Grille, 128 N. Front St.,
Chesaning. Proceeds will go to support the
Chesaning River Rapids Footbridge Project. The
cost is $35 per person if registration is
received by Feb. 18, $40 after that. The registration fee includes lunch, dinner, drink and
snack bar, goodies and five free raffle tickets.
Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase. Registration and payment should be

• The FIFTH ANNUAL SCRAPBOOK DAY to
benefit Chesaning Cub Scout Pack 3335 will be
held on Saturday, Feb 18. Join the group at
Trinity United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. to
9 p.m. for a fun day of scrapping. Lunch and
dinner will be provided. There will be make-ntakes, goodie bags and a silent auction. The
cost is $30 if registration is paid for before Feb

• Oakley Community Church will hold a POUND
AUCTION on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. at the
church’s fellowship hall, 327 S. Main St. (M-
52) in Oakley. Bring a wrapped one pound
“gift” to be auctioned off. Soup and sandwiches will be served for a $5 donation. Come join
the fun as attendees discover who gets
blessed and who gets bit at the auction.
Proceeds will benefit the church.
FOOD AND FELLOWSHIP
• The CHESANING AMERICAN LEGION POST
212 BREAKFAST will be held on Sunday, Feb.
5, from 7:30 a.m. until noon at the Post,
15052 McKeighan Road. The menu includes
bacon, sausage, sausage gravy and biscuits,
French toast, pancakes, hash browns, eggs to
order, orange juice, milk and coffee. The price
is $7 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 through
12, and free for children ages 5 and under. The
Legion is asking those attending to bring an
item for the CAER Center pantry to help replenish it for those in need. There will also be a
bake sale during the breakfast to help support
the Legion Auxiliary activities.
• The Montrose Eagles Club #4090 Auxiliary
will be serving a COUNTRY BREAKFAST BUFFET on Sunday, Feb. 12, from 8 a.m. to noon.
The cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children
ages 6-12, and free for children ages 5 and
under.The menu for the all-you-can-eat full
breakfast buffet includes sausage gravy and
biscuits, sausage patties/links, bacon, corned
beef hash, scrambled eggs, hash browns,
made to order eggs, pancakes, french toast,

strawberry and biscuits with Cool Whip, coffee,
tea, milk and orange juice. Buffet is open to
the public, and take-outs are welcome. For

• There will be a COMMUNITY SOUP SUPPER
on the second Saturday of each month from 5
to 7 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist
Church, 1629 Brady St., Chesaning. No reservations are needed and there is no cost. The
supper is open to all. Those in need of a ride

9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• The CHESANING KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
hold a take-out and eat-in fish fry on Friday,
Feb. 10, 17 and 24 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the
Hall, 9171 Deitering Road. The menu includes
cod or walleye, cole slaw, roll and french fries.
The cost is $9 for take-out upstairs, or $10 for
all-you-can-eat dine-in downstairs. There will
also be a take-out only fish fry on Ash
Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
• The Chesaning United Methodist Men will be
sponsoring a PANCAKE SUPPER on Tuesday,
Feb. 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Trinity
United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The
menu includes pancakes, French toast,
sausage and hash browns. The cost is $5 for
adults, $2.50 for children ages 5-12 (free for
those under age 5) with a maximum $15 per
immediate family. Everyone is invited to join in
for Fat Tuesday, the day before the Lenten season begins.
• There will be a CHICKEN DINNER on
Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Henderson United
Methodist Church. Take-outs and serving will
be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The menu includes
baked chicken, baked or mashed potatoes,
corn, cole slaw, biscuits and gravy, pie or cake.
The cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children
ages 12 and under, and free for preschoolers.
• St. Martin Lutheran Church of Birch Run will
be hosting an all-you-can-eat COD FISH FRY on
Friday, Feb. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 4
to 7 p.m. at the church Fellowship Hall located
at the corner of Canada and Gera Roads. The
menu includes cod, cole slaw, bread, beverages and desserts. The cost is $10 for adults,
$7 for ages 5 to 12, and free for those under
age 5. Tickets are available at the door, and
take-outs will be available.
• The Taymouth Firefighters Association will be
hosting its annual PANCAKE BREAKFAST on
Sunday, Feb. 12 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the
Taymouth Community Center. The menu will
include pancakes, sausage, eggs, French
toast, applesauce and drink. There will be a
drawing for a Family Night Out, sponsored by
Gohm Insurance and Restoration. The package
will include gift certificates for a movie at
Cinema Hollywood and McDonald's in Birch
Run.
• There will be a CHICKEN DINNER FUNDRAISER on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 4:30 to 6:30
p.m. at the Oakley Village Hall. The cost is $7
for adults, $5 for children ages 8 and under.
This event is sponsored by the Community
Christian Fellowship and the Village of Oakley
to benefit Kids March Madness Day.

• The SHIAWASSEE COUNTY MULTIPLE

• The Chesaning Knights of Columbus Council

12:30 p.m.
• Back by popular demand, the Mt. Zion
Catholic Community will welcome Traditional

Anglican Archbishop Sean Larkin to present its
annual SPRING CONFERENCE entitled “If God
is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans
8:31b) on Saturday, March 3, from 9 a.m. to 4
p.m. at the church, 8228 N. McKinley Road,
Flushing. Archbishop Larkin encountered the
reality of the Holy Spirit in 1976, and later
trained as an Ignatian spiritual director. He has
shared in the suffering and joy of serving
Christ’s church on a united front. The cost is

VALENTINE’S DAY DANCE for middle school
students, sixth through eighth grade from 7-10
