Sports Notes CORRECTION – In the Montrose girls soccer pictures published in last week’s issue, some players were misidentified. The photo “Heads Up” should have identified Shelby Cotton, not Alana Percy. DURAND EAGLES AUXILIARY HOSTS GOLF TOURNEY – The Durand Eagles Auxiliary #3851 will host its annual charity golf tournament on Saturday, June 18, at Dutch Hollow Golf Course in Durand. All proceeds will benefit Autism Speaks of Michigan. The tournament is open to the public and will follow a four-person scramble format. Entry fee is $260 per team and includes 18 holes of golf, a golf cart and a steak dinner. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Eagle membership is not necessary to participate. MEXICAN AMERICAN 3-ON-3 BASKETBALL — A 3-on-3 basketball tournament is planned for part of this weekend’s Mexican American Festival. NL COACH SHERI WARNER TO BE INDUCTED INTO HALL OF FAME — New Lothrop varsity volleyball coach Sheri Warner will be inducted into the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) Hall of Fame on Friday, July 29 at 1 p.m. at the MIVCA Coaches clinic luncheon at the McCamly Plaza Hotel in Battle Creek. Warner will be joined by Roxanne Steenhuysen of East Kentwood, Vicky Groat of Battle Creek St. Philip, Diane Phillips of Dearborn, and Priscilla Larned of Oakland Christian. The criteria for induction into the Hall of Fame include: the individual must be a former or current member of MIVCA in good standing, have 500 career wins and/or 20 years of coaching volleyball at the high school level, have demonstrated leadership in the sport and have demonstrated commitment to the sport. If anyone would like to attend the ceremony, the cost is $24 per person. Checks should be mailed by June 17 to: American Athlete, 435 Whitcomb St., Kalamazoo, MI 49001. Persons should request the appropriate number of tickets for the luncheon only. STC OFFERS STUDENT SPORTS PHYSICALS – Sports physicals will be conducted at the St Charles High School Gym on Tuesday, June 21 from 6 to 9 p.m.; and Wednesday, July 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. Physicals will be given in the girl’s locker room at the high school gym. The cost will be $10, with proceeds going to athletic field improvements. Physicals are being completed by Dr. Ron Gonzales, a long time supporter of St Charles Schools. It is important that each student athlete have a completed physical examination form at the time of exam. The form has been changed and is now four pages long. These forms will be available at the high school office prior to the exam dates. All forms that are 100 percent completed will be placed on file on the exam date. Those that are not, will be returned for completion before sports seasons begin. It is also required that a St Charles Athlete Medical History form be completed before the first contest. These forms travel with the athlete on away contest and are used by the emergency attending Physician. Sports physicals are required for all athletes and physical examinations conducted at this time are good for the entire school year. CAN COUNCIL GOLF OUTING — The Saginaw Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) Council is hosting its 13th annual golf outing on Friday, June 17 at the Swan Valley Golf Club. Registration and continental breakfast begin at 8:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. The $100 fee covers 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch at the turn, steak dinner and goody bag. There will also be door prizes, skill contests and an auction. Reservations to attend the dinner and auction, without golfing, are $20 per person. Reservations can be made for individuals or teams of four golfers. Limited sponsorships are still available. CHESANING INDIAN FOOTBALL OPEN — The 16th annual Chesaning Football Indian Open four person scramble will be played on Saturday, June 18, at Twin Brooks Golf Course in Chesaning. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m., with tee time at 9 a.m. The cost is $55 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf with cart, lunch and beverages. There will be a prize for first place with additional prizes available, including hole prizes. In the past funds raised from this outing have been used for special pads, technology equipment such as VCRs, an end zone camera, digital cameras, computers and software for analyzing game tapes and a new watering system. MARY'S RUN/WALK FOR HEALTH JUNE 25 – On Saturday, June 25, St. Mary’s of Michigan will hold the 33rd Annual Run/Walk for Health. All events start and finish at St. Mary’s of Michigan Riverfront (MCVI Building) located at 1015 S. Washington Ave. in Saginaw. The certified course will take participants along the picturesque Saginaw Riverwalk. There will be a 10K Run at 80 a.m., a 5K Run at 8:05 a.m., and a 5K Walk at 8:07 a.m. All participants will receive a complementary T-shirt. Prices are $20 before June 22 at midnight and then $25 the day of the race and will only be available onsite. Register now at www.stmarysofmichigan.org. CHESANING YOUTH FOOTBALL SIGN-UP – Signup for Chesaning Youth Football will be June 13 and 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the ShowboatPark Pavilion. After July 1, the registration fee is $75 per player with no family discount. The deadline for sign-up is July 15.
