Free Income Tax Assistance - Free income tax assistance is provided at several locations in Saginaw County (including the Chesaning Public Library) to those who cannot pay for tax preparation. Trained volunteers will prepare simple tax forms beginning Feb. 3 through April 14 for low-income individuals, elderly, handicapped and non-English speaking residents. The Chesaning Public Library will offer this service on Thursdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Please call the library at (989) 845-3211 for an appointment. The VITA program is a service of the United Way of Saginaw County.

Extreme Einstein Elimination: The second annual competition returns this year on Thursday, April 7 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Chesaning. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the challenge kicking off at 7 p.m. A fundraiser for the Chesaning Public Library, the competition will feature teams of four players competing for trophies and bragging rights. The event is limited to ten teams, so interested players should register early. The registration fee is $50 per team, with all proceeds benefitting library projects and programs. The event is open to high school students and adults. This family-friendly competition welcomes audience members of all ages. For every $1 donation at the door, guests will receive a ticket for the prize drawing. Concessions and cash bar will be available. Registration forms are available at the Chesaning Public Library and on the library website, www.chesaninglibrary.org. Payments may be made via check, cash or PayPal. Forms must be submitted online or returned to the Chesaning Public Library no later than March 25. Winter Computer Classes

Microsoft Word - This class will cover screen layout, tips for typing in Word, some basic editing such as selecting, replacing, inserting, using bullets and spell checking, using Print Preview, saving, closing, opening, printing and some helpful quick commands. Mondays, March 14 and 21, 1-2 p.m. Call the library to sign up at (989) 845-3211.

Book Discussion Group is reading Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe by Fannie Flagg. We will be meeting Wednesday, March 16 at 7 p.m. Stop in and pick up a copy to enjoy. Bring a friend; there will be yummy refreshments!

Did you know you can request, renew books or check your account status online? Just go to our website at www.stcharlesdistrictlibrary.org and then click on “online catalog.” From there you can:

 Search our online catalog

 Place holds and interlibrary loans on your home computer

 View your record, which includes the books that you have checked out, their due dates, renew items checked out, view any fines that you might have, and the books that you have requested.

After following “this link” click on the login button. Type in the 14 digit number on the back of your library card and your PIN (the last four digits of your phone number). If it does not allow you to login, either the barcode on your card or your phone number do not match our records. Please call us at (989) 865-9451 to resolve any inconsistencies.

The library would like to know how many of our patrons are interested in downloadable audio books and eBooks. If you are interested in these items and have the device to download these items, please let our circulation desk known! If there is a great enough interest, our library may consider joining a consortium to purchase these items for our patrons.
