NL FFA members place at regionals

The New Lothrop FFA Chapter competed at regional contests on Thursday, Feb. 17 at the Lapeer Area Career Center. Twelve chapters from across the region competed in 11 different leadership contests.

Seventh grader Clara Devota earned a First Place Gold Award and became the 2011 Region IV Champion in Junior High Public Speaking. Devota will compete on Thursday, March 10 at Michigan State University for the state title.

The eighth grade Junior High Conduct of Meetings Team also earned a First Place Gold Award as the 2011 Region IV Champions in that contest and will also compete at MSU on March 10 in the state finals contest. Team members are Gabe Bennett, Dalton Birchmeier, Olivia Bishop, Haley Grombir, Valerie Klein, Kate Merlo, and Erica Seamon.

The Parliamentary Procedures Team, consisting of seniors Marrissa Angst, Hannah Hajeck, Katie Priest, Jesse Streng, and junior Zachary Taylor earned a Second Place Gold Award at regionals and will compete in the semifinals round at MSU on Wednesday, March 9. The top two teams in the semifinals round will advance to the finals on Thursday.

Courtney Seamon earned a Gold Award in the Job Interview Contest and will serve as alternate to state competition in that contest.

The Junior High Conduct of Meetings Blue Team, consisting of Joshua Baker, Andrew Cataldo, Brooke Griffin, Brendan Henige, Trenton Peterson, Noah Taylor, and Paige Vincke earned a silver award at regionals.

The FFA State Convention will be held Wednesday, March 9 through Friday, March 11 at Michigan State University. Spectators are encouraged to attend and show their support for the future agricultural leaders of Michigan.
