Open Cupboard Talent Show adds art and poetry competition

Performing arts tryouts set for Nov. 5 and 6

MONTROSE – The third annual Open Cupboard Talent Show on Nov. 20 will add two new categories with a poetry and art competition along with the performing arts category. Proceeds from the show will benefit the local food pantry, The Open Cupboard.

The poetry competition is limited to only high school age students, with a top prize of $50.

The top artwork in each of the three age categories (K-4, 5-8 and 9-12 grade Montrose students) will also receive $50. The artwork will be displayed at the high school, the Open Cupboard, and the Eastern Michigan Food Bank.

Art and poetry entries should be turned in at Montrose High school by Nov. 13.

The two new categories will join the performing acts. The acts often include a variety of performances, from music and dance to magic acts. Try-outs for the show will be held on Nov. 5 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and on Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Montrose Community Auditorium.

The top acts in each age group will receive $100, with second place taking home $50.

About 18 to 20 acts will be selected to perform in the show. Those who are selected will be required to attend a dress rehearsal on Nov. 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The performing arts category of the show is open to all K-12 graders from any school.

Each of the three categories has a small entry fee if selected for the show.

The talent show is set for Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Montrose Community Auditorium.
