Board approves trip to Washington, DC The Montrose Community Schools Board of Education has approved an overnight bus trip to Washington, DC for 96 social studies students along with 14 chaperones. During the trip students will tour major monuments, museums and either the Capitol building or the White House. Hill-McCloy Principal Jim Ply called it “an excellent opportunity for students.” The students will have to be “in good standing at the time,” Ply said adding, “It's a great opportunity. For a lot of our kids, this is their first time out of the county.” “Our goal here is to stir interest and see how our government works,” Ply said. School Board President Morrie Fikes added, “Our kids need to know this board may also cancel due to world events.” Ply acknowledged, knowing that student safety is a priority. The students have been raising funds to hire charter buses for the trip. The trip is scheduled for three days in November. |
